How Often Should You Really Get a Massage?

One of the most common questions I’m asked is:

“How often should I be coming in?”

And the honest answer is… it depends.

Not just on your schedule.
Not just on your budget.
But on your body, your stress level, and what you’re actively working through.

There’s a difference between maintenance care and active support. Understanding that difference can help you decide what frequency makes the most sense for you.

If You’re in Pain or Working Through Something Specific

If you’re dealing with back pain, neck tension, a flare-up, training intensely, or a high-stress season, every 2 weeks can be incredibly supportive.

When the body is inflamed or compensating, patterns re-establish quickly. Spacing sessions closer together allows us to interrupt those patterns before they fully set back in.

Instead of starting from scratch each visit, we build on the previous session.

This is especially helpful when:

  • Pain is recurring

  • Postural imbalances are being addressed

  • You’re increasing physical activity

  • Stress levels are elevated

Consistency creates momentum.

If You’re Feeling Mostly Good and Maintaining

If you’re not in pain and simply want to support mobility, circulation, and nervous system regulation, monthly massage is a wonderful rhythm.

Think of it as preventative care.

Just like you wouldn’t wait for your teeth to hurt before seeing a dentist, you don’t have to wait until your body is in pain to receive support.

Monthly sessions help:

  • Reduce accumulated stress

  • Maintain tissue mobility

  • Support recovery from workouts

  • Prevent minor tension from becoming chronic

This is where many clients find their sweet spot.

If You’re in a High-Stress Season

Big life transitions, work demands, emotional load — these don’t just impact your mind. They show up in your body.

Shoulders rise.
Jaw tightens.
Hips grip.

During these seasons, more consistent massage can prevent stress from turning into chronic bracing.

Massage supports the nervous system’s ability to down-regulate, helping your body return to baseline more easily.

Why Frequency Matters

Massage isn’t just about relaxing once.

It’s about retraining patterns over time.

Muscles, fascia, and the nervous system respond beautifully to consistency. When sessions are spaced appropriately for your current needs, we reinforce new patterns instead of repeatedly interrupting old ones.

That doesn’t mean you “have” to come more often.

It simply means there’s a difference between occasional relief and ongoing care.

So… What’s Right for You?

There’s no universal rule.

Some clients thrive on biweekly support during intense seasons and shift to monthly when things stabilize. Others prefer steady monthly maintenance year-round.

If you’re unsure, we can always talk about it at your next session. Your body gives us good information.

And if you’re looking for consistency, membership options are available to make regular care simple and accessible.

Your body doesn’t need perfection.

It responds well to care.
