One Thing I Wish Everyone Knew About Their Body
There’s one thing I come back to again and again—in my own healing, and in the work I do with others:
Your body is not the problem. It’s the messenger.
So many of us have been taught to ignore, silence, or even resent our bodies—especially when they ache, tighten, or react in ways we don’t understand.
But the truth is:
Your body isn’t misbehaving.
It’s responding—intelligently, protectively, and automatically.
Muscle tension? That’s your body saying, “Hey, something feels off. I’m trying to help you feel safe.”
Headaches? Digestive issues? Shallow breath?
Those are all signs your nervous system might be stuck in a stress response—and your body is doing its best with the information it has.
🧠 The Nervous System’s Role
Your body doesn’t separate the emotional from the physical.
That’s the wisdom of the nervous system—the network constantly scanning for safety and threat, and then adjusting how your body responds.
It’s why your shoulders clench when you’re anxious.
Why you feel tired when overwhelmed.
Why your gut reacts when you’re stressed.
It’s not sabotage.
It’s survival.
💆♀️ What Bodywork Can Offer
Massage isn’t just about loosening tight muscles.
It’s about helping your system feel supported enough to soften.
To exhale.
To shift from high alert into regulation.
Through techniques like slow, intentional touch, myofascial release, and breath awareness, massage creates the conditions for your nervous system to say:
“Maybe I don’t have to brace anymore. Maybe it’s safe enough to let go.”
You don’t have to fix your body.
You get to listen to it—and support it.
🌿 A Simple Practice
Next time your body feels tense, tired, or “off,” try this:
Place your hand somewhere that feels neutral—like your heart, your belly, or your leg.
Take a slow breath in through your nose, and a longer exhale through your mouth.
Gently ask: “What are you trying to tell me?”
Don’t rush for answers. Just listen. Trust that the body always speaks in sensations.
💫 You Are Not Broken
If no one’s ever told you:
Your body isn’t broken.
You’re not too sensitive.
You’re not doing it wrong.
Your body is trying to help you. And sometimes it just needs a little help remembering what safety feels like.
