June Gloom, Overwhelm, and the Power of Doing Nothing

Here in San Diego, June Gloom is in full effect. Thick clouds roll in each morning, muting the sun and stretching the sleepy mood well into the day. And honestly? I'm feeling it.

As someone who grew up on the East Coast, this time of year has always meant emergence — shedding layers, chasing fireflies, staying out late, and soaking in every ounce of summer’s early energy. But here in Southern California, it feels like the universe is hitting the snooze button. A pause. A deep breath. A moment to reflect before we burst into the full-blown fun of summer.

And maybe… that’s exactly what we need.

Honoring the Season You're In

Lately, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed — in that sneaky way that happens when everything is technically good. Life is full, yes, but also packed. As someone who loves being in motion, it can be easy for me to keep saying yes. Yes to plans. Yes to work. Yes to the next exciting thing.

But even joy can be exhausting.

This month reminded me how crucial it is to intentionally schedule in time to do nothing. Not out of laziness or avoidance — but out of love. Creating space with no appointments, no tasks, no plans... just breathing room.

Because here’s the thing:
Stillness is healing.
Doing nothing is powerful.
And rest is not something we need to earn.

Massage as Sacred Pause

This is part of why I love the work I do. Massage and myofascial release invite us back into the body. Back into presence. They are tools that help us pause — not because we’re broken or burned out, but because we’re human.

If you’ve been feeling the weight of the weather, the season, or just life itself, I invite you to claim a moment for yourself. Even just an hour of stillness can change the trajectory of your week.

Journal Prompt

What would it look like to protect one day this month for complete rest — with no guilt attached?

Try it. You might be surprised by what returns when you finally stop.
