Gratitude in the Body: A Somatic Approach to Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on what it means to truly feel gratitude — not just think about it.

At Sol Massage in San Diego, I often invite clients to slow down, take a breath, and notice how their body responds to simple moments of appreciation. Gratitude isn’t only an emotion; it’s a state of the nervous system — one that can be cultivated through awareness, breath, and presence.

Feeling Gratitude in Your Body

When we pause long enough to sense gratitude, something softens.
The breath deepens. The shoulders drop. The heart feels a little warmer, the jaw unclenches, and a wave of ease moves through the body.

That’s your nervous system shifting from tension into safety — a reminder that the body itself knows how to return to peace when we give it the chance.

This Thanksgiving, instead of simply listing what you’re grateful for, try feeling it:

  • Place a hand on your heart or belly.

  • Take a slow breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth.

  • Let yourself notice what gratitude feels like — warmth, openness, calm, or even tears.

That physical feeling is the body’s way of saying thank you.

A Note of Gratitude

As I reflect on this past year, I’m overwhelmed with appreciation for my community — every client, referral, kind word, and moment of connection. You’ve allowed me to do what I love every single day, and I don’t take that lightly.

2024 has been a year of expansion: a new space here in San Diego, new offerings like myofascial release, reiki, and the introduction of somatic coaching — all centered around helping you return home to your body.

I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who’s supported Sol Massage, shared the journey, and trusted me with your care.

Wishing You a Grounded, Grateful Season

However you’re celebrating this week, I hope you take a moment to slow down, breathe, and notice how gratitude feels in your body.

Whether you’re sharing a meal, taking a walk by the ocean, or simply resting, let your body be your guide back to warmth and ease.
